A Swiss firm, Alp Services, was hired by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2017 to conduct a covert anti-Muslim disinformation campaign, according to the Abu Dhabi Secrets investigation by European Investigative Collaborations. Specializing in smear tactics, spreading false information, and creating fake accounts, Alp Services was tasked with spying on European citizens, among others.
The company illegally provided Emirati secret services with the names of thousands of European citizens. Various organizations, politicians, and activists across 18 European countries were targeted, falsely linked to radical Islamist groups in a bid to discredit them. This smear campaign has severely damaged reputations and contributed to growing public mistrust of Muslims and Islam.
